The Municipality of Sainte-Flavie is currently working to develop a family policy. This policy will establish the guidelines for municipal development, taking into consideration the needs and opinions of the local families. The safety, quality of life and services available in our area are our main concern in establishing our Family Policy.

What exactly is a family ?
The Sainte-Flavie municipal council has adopted the following definition as a basis for further action in this domain:
|
The family is the basic unit of society, composed of persons united by a wide variety of familial ties. It is an educational environment, one which socializes its members and in which individuals support each other to their mutual benefit and to the benefit of the greater community.
More specifically, a family is any group of two or more persons who are interlinked by mutual consent, by birth, by adoption, through blended families or by fostering. Modern families take many forms : traditional families, single-parent families, blended families, extended families, foster families, etc.
We are well aware that the concept of family has undergone major transformations over the years. Our definition must fit this reality and include the whole range of potential links in a family network.

Guidelines :
To give direction to any actions undertaken within the framework of our family policy, the municipal council has set up the following guidelines:
"Sainte-Flavie considers that the family is the basic, essential environment for individual development, learning and socialization.
"Sainte-Flavie understands that the following fundamental values must be transmitted: brotherhood, tolerance, respect for others, non-violence, community spirit, mutual aid, social commitment and community spirit.
"Sainte-Flavie considers that communication is the most useful way to encourage families to participate in municipal life. This includes greeting and welcoming new families, disseminating and sharing information and promoting family services.
"Sainte-Flavie understands that municipal services must collaborate with para-municipal services and local organizations to ensure the most efficient use of available resources.
